USA Gymnastics & AAU Compulsory and Optional Levels
Here at Step Ahead we believe that gymnastics is the greatest sport the world has to offer. We ensure every individual will have the chance to become a strong gymnast while also enjoying a supporting and high-energy environment. Level 2 and 3
Beginner USAG DP Compulsory Levels
These are the beginning levels of team, most kids are invited from our pre-team class with ages ranging from 6 years old and up.

Our competitive season runs from November to mid March. We typically attend 4-5 regular season competitions to give our athletes the opportunity to qualify to the next level. Sate Championships for compulsory levels takes place in December, with qualification from November competitions.
Levels
4 and 5
USA Gymnastics DP Compulsory Levels
Level 4 is the second to last compulsory level in the USA Gymnastics DP program. This is where more commitment to the sport and practice hours increase.l

Level 5 is the last compulsory level in the USA Gymnastics DP program before a gymnast can enter the USA Gymnastics Optional Levels. ​To enter Level 5 a Mobility Score needs to be reached at Level 4.

Our competitive season runs from November to mid March. We typically attend 4-5 regular season competitions to give our athletes the opportunity to qualify to the next level. Sate Championships for compulsory levels takes place in December, with qualification from November competitions.
Levels 6-10
USA Gymnastics DP Optional Levels
In the USA Gymnastics DP program the have what is referred to as optionals, these levels are where gymnasts receive their own routines for the events and build on their skill difficulty. Mobility Scores need to be reached at Level 5 and on to move through the levels.

Our competitive season runs from November to April. We typically attend 4-5 regular season competitions to give our athletes the opportunity to qualify to the Sate Championships that takes place at the end of the season in March. There is also the opportunity to qualify to the Regional Championships starting at Level 6 which takes place around the end of April. At Level 9 there is the opportunity to qualify to Eastern Championships and Level 10 National Championships. Qualifying to these events would extend the competitive season to mid May.

AAU Team
Compulsory & Optional Levels
AAU is similar to USAG but with more competitive opportunities for all levels. At Step Ahead, AAU, is optional and in addition to the USAG season. AAU qualifier meets typically start in December, with States taking place in April. AAU season consists of 2-3 qualifier meets, State Championships and the opportunity of participating in South Eastern Regionals and National Championships representing North Carolina and Step Ahead. Regionals usually takes place in early May and Nationals usually takes place late June.

This season was Step Ahead's first season competing AAU. We had Levels 2-8 with a total of 9 gymnasts. All of which qualified to Regionals and Nationals.
